2013 Red carpet hair trends

January 16, 2013

With the awards season in full swing now is the perfect time to take inspiration from the red carpet and get a new hair style. Here is Shumaila’s guide to the best Celeb inspired hair trends.

Short styles

It’s a bold option but a short gamine crop can be a really sexy and daring look. Anne Hathaway had to chop of her tumbling locks for her role in Les Misérables but far from looking dour, her chic gamine crop is pure sophistication. While at the Critic’s choice awards Emily Blunt showed that short hair needn’t be boring as she styled it in retro finger waves adding a glam element to her style. And Harry Potter fave Emma Watson has been rocking short hair for years and still looks glamorous.

However, if you are going for the chop, make sure you choose a style to complement your face shape as it can make you look less than perfect if the cut isn’t right. Therefore, have a chat with your hairdresser who can advise you of the best look for you.

Tumbling waves

Nothing screams Hollywood glamour then sexy tumbling waves. As a celeb perennial favourite on the red carpet it’s the perfect style for any occasion and can add a wow factor to your look. At the recent Golden Globe awards a host of stars opting for the glamour of tumbling waves, including Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, Amanda Seyfried and Miranda Kerr (to name but a few!) – all showing how effortlessly sexy Hollywood waves can look.

If you are opting for the look, make sure your hair is in the best possible condition as it needs to look sleek and not parched. Also try to avoid corkscrew curls as the key to the look is loose and tumbling so you don’t want to keep your curls too tight.

A classic bun

OK so there isn’t a red carpet occasion when the bun isn’t worn by a number of celebs but that is because it is an effortless way to look chic at any event.

Just because you are going for a classic bun it doesn’t mean that the look as to be too prim. At the recent Golden Globes awards the star of ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, Jennifer Lawrence, went for a different take on the traditional ballerina bun. She went for an edgy, messy up-do that still looked incredibly chic and brought the humble bun bang up to date.

Braids

These been a celeb fave for many months now but if the recent red carpet events are anything to go by braids are sticking around on the fashion radar for some time yet. Jennifer Lawrence, Lea Michelle, Alicia Keys and Katy Perry all went for almost Heidi-esque braided up dos for the People’s Choice awards – while at the Golden Globes Lucy Liu teamed her floral Carolina Herrera gown with an intricate fishtail plait which looked chic yet edgy.

The great thing about a braided style is that it is so versatile – you can dress it down for day and glam it up at night and still look bang on trend.
