Autumn/Winter nail trends

October 14, 2013

OK I am going to have face it that winter is well and truly upon us. However, it’s not all doom and gloom as a new season does at least mean you have a chance to try out new fashions and one of the simplest ways of doing that is with a fab new manicure. So what manicure trends should you be thinking about this autumn/winter.

Very Berry

Berry shades were a key beauty trend this season and the same can be said for manicures. In fact dark berry nails were a key feature of the Burberry and Dsquared2 shows while Zac Posen had a creamy berry shade.

Because it is a really versatile colour that comes in a number of shades you can really have fun with this look and it’s perfect for the party season.

Moody and dark

If there is one shade that sums up winter it has to dark and moody and this season there are a lot of black manicures to choose from plain black shades, dark green and navy and there was even a take on the classic French manicure with Oscar La Renta using black nail polish for a reverse French manicure with black nails and cream half-moons. While at La Perla the look was reversed.

Red

It’s a classic but it’s clearly not going anywhere so this season you can’t go too far wrong with glam red nails as it just oozes ladylike sophistication. Seen at Valentino, Meadham Kirchoff and Antonio Beradi it is the perfect weekend nail trend.

Natural nails

At J.Mendel and Derek Lam in New York and Dolce & Gabbana in Milan nails took the next step and moved from nude to natural with no colour and simple shapes. However, that doesn’t mean you can just let your nails go instead make sure you still book in for regular manicures so your nails stay in tip-top condition and look their best.

Think about shape

If you are bored of short and square or the stiletto nail shapes of summer then why not take inspiration from the Mark Fast show at London Fashion week and try squaletto style which means the nails are long but with a square flat top.

3D

While nail art has started to dwindle in popularity in the last few years but this season there was still some great looks to choose from and this year it is all about 3D embellishments. From Libertine, Katie Hughes to Jenny Packham it was all about what could be stuck on the nails such as lace, crystals to glitter nail art is all about embellishments this season so you can really go to town with your manicure.
