A great skincare routine
This time of year is more than a little bit hectic which means you could be starting to see the effects of the cold weather and all that partying on your skin. However, before you reach for the paper bag there are things you can do to bring your skin back to life and it all starts with a good skincare routine. So for radiant skin follow the tips below and you will always look your best whatever the season.
Strip off (your makeup!) every night
This is one of those things your mum goes on about but removing your makeup before you go to bed really does wonders for your skin. If you think about it by leaving your makeup on all the gunk and dirt from the day has nowhere to go, apart from into your pores leading to spots and dull skin.
Therefore, every great skincare regime has to start with cleansing. You should invest in a good quality cleanser that is designed to suit your skin type – as it could cause skincare problems if you don’t pick the right one. However, as a general rule oil based cleansers tend to work whatever your skin type. What’s more even if your skin is normal you should still make sure that you don’t pick a cleanser that is too harsh as you don’t want anything that is going to strip valuable moisture from your face.
You also don’t always need a separate eye makeup remover (I only use one if I have overdone the eyeliner) as too many steps when you are tired is going to make it all the more tempting to not cleanse your face all together.
What about toner? Well toner is great at removing any last traces of makeup your cleanser may have missed and will also restore your skin’s natural PH balance which is important for forming a natural barrier against the elements.
Modern life does rather have a tendency to strip moisture from your skin therefore, getting the right moisturiser is vital for a radiant looking face. Moisturiser helps form a barrier between you skin and the environment. But like cleanser you have to make sure that you choose the right type for your skin. Liquid and cream moisturisers work well for dry or wrinkled skin, while water based, oil-free moisturisers are best for oily skin as they soak into your skin better.
Every time you exfoliate you are removing dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin which means that it looks more rejuvenated and also helps ease the appearance of fine lines and acne, as well as giving you smoother and more radiant looks. However, make sure you read the instructions on your exfoliator really well, as some are too harsh to be used every day.
Don’t forget the SPF
Even in the depth of winter you need to make sure that you are using sunscreen as UVA and UVB rays are one of the biggest causes of skin aging. Therefore, make sure that your moisteriser and even your foundation have an SPF of at least 15 in and if you are going to be in the sun all day wear sunscreen.
Book in for that facial
Booking in for a regular facial can also be really great for your skin as this is a perfect way of deep cleaning your face and removing any damaging impurities. Not only that but your beautician can help advise you of the best skincare routine to suit your skin and you get to relax in the process.
