Botox injections or the surgeon’s scalpel?

Looked in the mirror lately and felt a bit dejected about the toll the years have taken on your face?  We’ll we’ve all been there, but instead of moping around feeling down in the dumps about it, why not take action instead and do something positive about it?

But going in to proactive anti-ageing action mode doesn’t have to mean an appointment with the plastic surgeon, there are a number of ways you can lift your look without resorting to the surgeon’s knife.  Botox injections, Restylane, and other injectable fillers, Dermaroller treatments, and medical microdermabrasion, among other treatments, all can work their magic to transform your appearance.

Botox is one of the most famous, and universally relied upon non-surgical facial anti-ageing treatment, and is a staple requirement for many celebrities to maintain the perma-youthful glow that high definition cameras and unforgiving studio lights demand.

But you don’t have to be earning a top-grossing box office fee to afford Botox injections, the procedure is so inexpensive, and so widespread now, that the cost is accessible to everyone, although as a caveat, do make sure that you only use a qualified practitioner when seeking your treatment.

Botox can be used in any area to freeze the muscles that usually cause expression lines and wrinkles to form; such as in the crow’s feet and frown lines, and it also prevents these lines and furrows from deepening.  A little known fact is that over time, Botox can actually weaken the muscles, and cause them to atrophy, meaning you won’t wrinkle as easily, and so will typically find that you can go longer between treatments.

Botox can’t be used to treat all areas though, for nose to mouth lines it’s much better to use a filler, such as Restylane -a substance which mimics the hyaluronic acid the body naturally produces- and which plumps and fills the area, giving a more, rested and refreshed look.

And for lips that can thin as the years go by there is Perlane, a thicker version of Restylane, which can be used to give shape and volume to your lipline, and restore a more youthful contour.

Dermaroller is a non-surgical treatment which can have a dramatic effect on the uneven pigmentation that can be a consequence of ageing – the fine micro needles of the roller device puncture the skin to stimulate collagen- giving your cells a much needed wake-up call with the result being, younger looking, smoother skin.

This treatment is also particularly effective if you have bothersome scarring you want to shift, as, used over several sessions Dermaroller treatments can really improve acne and other scars, as well as generally encourage a plumper, and more vital complexion.

Medical microdermabrasion, as the name suggests, is similar to the microdermabrasion that you may be more familiar with at the beauty salon, but uses much more abrasive crystals, to encourage the top layer of skin to entirely shed itself.  After a medical microdermabrasion treatment, you can expect your skin to be quite red and sore, but after 3-4 days, the top layer should peel away to reveal the new, more youthful and radiant skin beneath.

For the most effective anti-ageing results, why not combine two or three of the above mentioned treatments for supercharged results?  Leave the surgery to Joan Rivers and Cher, you can enjoy all the benefits of modern technology, surgery free, without a single scalpel ever needing to come near your face.
