Coping with your post-Christmas beauty hangover

The festive season is rapidly drawing to a close but all that partying and stress has probably taken its toll on your face and body.

However, just because you may have overdone it over Christmas and New Year doesn’t mean you have to spend most of 2013 living with the consequences. Instead with a little TLC you can be back to your radiant best sooner rather than later.

Take time to relax

Christmas and New Year are brilliant times of year but they are also stressful and busy – most people barely have time to draw breath between parties and preparing for the festive season so relaxing is likely to have been bottom of most people’s list.

Beauty comes from within so if you have feel relaxed and stress-free you will look better for it. By taking time for a relaxing massage or body wrap you can ensure that you are in the best frame of mind to start the New Year.

Rejuvenate your face

All that party makeup and late nights is going to take its toll on your face. You might have noticed that your skin looks less then perfect with breakouts as well as taking on a grey, dull pallor. Therefore, now is the time to treat your face so that it starts 2013 looking its best.

The first thing you need to worry about is rehydration as alcohol and late nights tend to leave you dehydrated. So make sure you are drinking plenty of water to replenish any moisture that is lost. Also make sure you don’t skip your skincare routine as now is the time you will need it most so cleanse, tone and moisturise everyday to stop your pores being clogged and don’t skip the exfoliator as this will help remove some of the toxins from Christmas. Also if you can go without your makeup for a day here and there your skin will really thank you.

Don’t forget your eyes

Your eyes are one of the first places to show tiredness or hangovers. Nourish your hair

Constant styling, especially with heated appliances such as straigteners, can leave your hair looking a little lack lustre at best. So leave the heated stylers for a while and treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment to stop any bad hair days in their wake.

It’s also a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo which will strip out any residue from styling products and give you a clean canvas to work from. From here you need to put the moisture back into your hair so a deep conditioning mask or hot oil treatment will help replenish your hair.

By treating yourself to some TLC and doing what you can to replenish what your skin and hair has lost you can make sure 2013 is your best looking year yet.
