Festival beauty with Shumaila

June 9, 2013

So we can safely say that summer is finally upon us and that means one thing festival season is about to kick off. In fact it is just a few short weeks till the Glastonbury festival starts with people flocking to Somerset for the event from June 26th.

But with festivals also comes a bit of a beauty nightmare as you are not going to be able to shower (well unless you queue for hours for one that is) and sleeping a tent isn’t exactly the easiest accommodation to ensure you look your best. So how can you make sure that you are looking your best for those all important Facebook and Instagram pics? Well here is Shumaila’s guide to festival beauty.

Before you go

In order to look your best on the festival scene this summer you will need to do a bit of prep work to get your skin, hair and body in tip top condition. So book in for that all important wax as you won’t want to worry about hairy legs while partying (especially if the weather continues to stay warm as you will want to be as cool as possible so you might need to get your legs out). It’s also a good idea to go and get your eyebrows threaded as you are not going to want to worry about plucking your eyebrows in a tent and because threading is long lasting you can ensure your eyes look fab through out the festival. And a long lasting gel manicure will see you through the event without a chipped nail in site.

At the festival

Once there don’t let the fact you can’t shower mean that you chuck your beauty regime completely out the window. While at the festival make sure you pack lots of baby wipes and dry shampoo. That way you can clean up as best you can and stop your hair looking too greasy. When it comes to hair styles braids are bang on trend at the moment and are perfect for the festival season as it will keep your hair up (perfect for when it is starting to look a bit greasy) but still look fashionable. Also being out in the sun and all that partying can play havoc with skin so make sure you moisturise from within by drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated as your skin will thank you when you get back.

However, if there is one festival must have that you can’t leave home without it has to be sun cream. When you are out in the sun all day you can damage your skin leading to not only uncomfortable sun burn but it also ages you in the long run. So slather on the sun block and make sure you choose one that has protection against UVA and UVB rays so that you are protected and come back tanned and not bright red.

Once you are back from the festival (and of course had a shower!) you are going to want to look at repairing any damage you may have done (which hopefully will be minimal). Now would be a good time to book in for a hair trim to get your hair back in good nick and hopefully a few days without washing it would have left it looking shiny and glossy. While a facial will replenish your skin and leave you relaxed and ready for the next festival on the calendar.
