So summer is officially in full swing and that means one thing – summer parties and a good party needs a fab hairdo. So what are the key summer hair trends for this year? Here’s Shumaila’s guide to some of the best hairdos for when the sun is shining and the temperature rises.
Do get tied up in knots
The top-knot from last season has slipped down to the nape of the neck and it’s a chic elegant look that is perfect for summer events such as the races or a wedding. Take inspiration from the likes of Emily Blunt. While on the spring/summer 2013 catwalks were full of low knotted buns with models at Dior, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Givenchy all showcasing the trend. What’s more if you are getting married this summer it is also a perfect bridal look as not only is it chic its also uber sophisticated so if perfect for the big day.
OK so it is a perennial summer look but there is something to be said for flowing waves. It’s also perfect for the humidity of summer as a straight blow dry has a tendency to frizz out a little bit but by using some tongs on the end of your hair you have a chic yet relaxed look so is perfect for any summer party and is great if you don’t have time to get an immaculate blow dry.
The braidy bunch
The braid is certainly having a fashion moment with celebs like Hayden Panettiere as well being popular on the spring/summer catwalks. Hervé Léger, Jason Wu, Marchesaand Balmain all showing how versatile braids can be as no two styles are the same. A braided style is a perfect take on a stylish updo which has an edgy twist to it.
Short and oh so sweet
If your hair is short that doesn’t mean that you don’t have any options for your hair style. Just take inspiration from Anne Hathaway who in the last year or so has shown how fab a chic pixie crop can look. While the Great Gatsby has shown how hair accessories can instantly lift a short style. So opt for pretty floral accessories and sexy bling pieces and you are bound to be the belle of the ball.
Join the pony club
Let’s face it the ponytail is big fashion news at the moment every celeb worth their salt seems to have turned up on the red carpet with a ponytail as well as being on the catwalks. But don’t think of a high gym ponytail that you use to tie your hair back when you are having a bad hair day. The catwalks were full of chic and sophisticated low-slung ponytail. At Michael Kors and Ellie Saab used a wide hair band to hold the hair in place while at Etro they used a fab black ribbon. So why not play around with the humble ponytail for the perfect summer look?
