Make sure your smile dazzles this Christmas
November 21, 2012
There is nothing like a smile to express true beauty and for a good smile you need nice teeth. Nothing is more unattractive then discoloured, grubby looking teeth and nowadays more than ever the megawatt smile is very much in fashion. Every celebrity worth their salt has bright gleaming pearly whites and with the party season mere weeks away it’s a good time to copy them – let’s face it, you don’t want to be networking with your boss at the office party showing off ugly gnashers and even the best outfit can be ruined by a bad smile.
However, keeping your teeth looking white isn’t rocket science as there are a number of steps you can take to ensure your smile is radiant at all times.
You are what you eat
Let’s face it, your teeth are your first line of defence against whatever you are eating or drinking, so what you put in your mouth will affect the condition of your teeth.
It’s a good idea to limit the amount of red wine and dark coloured foods you have (this is especially important after having any kind of teeth whitening treatment) as well as tea and coffee. The combination of the acids and dye in red wine actually colour your saliva which then stains your teeth. Meanwhile, the tannic acid in tea and coffee can also cause discolouration and you should avoid any food that would stain a white top as it will also stain your teeth.
Listen to your mum and clean your teeth
Good oral hygiene is one of the best ways to ensure your teeth stay not only healthy but also looking their best.
You should brush your teeth about an hour after every meal to help remove stains. However, don’t brush them straight after eating as it can damage your teeth. You need to give the saliva a chance to neutralise any food. While you are thinking about oral hygiene you should also include mouthwash and floss so that you are removing any food between your teeth as well as bacteria that brushing alone cannot remove, and don’t forget to change your toothbrush regularly.
Put on your lippy
The right coloured lipstick can actually help the appearance of your teeth. So for example, lipsticks with blue tones can make your teeth whiter, as can coral tones. However, if you do have yellow teeth avoid hot pink lipstick as that can make them look more yellow.
Crunch when you munch
It may sound odd but crunchy food such as apples and celery are slightly abrasive and can lift stains without damaging your teeth’s enamel.
See the professionals
However, for a true Hollywood megawatt smile you could look at getting your teeth professionally whitened. The Diamond Teeth Whitening system uses cold-light technology and a concentrated beam of blue light to gently whiten teeth so in just an hour any stains will be gone and your teeth will look white and shiny.
With Christmas just weeks away make sure your party outfit has the best accessory of all – a bright smile.
