Pale and interesting

Pale manicures were a key feature on the spring/summer catwalks. From the milk white nails at Karen Walker and Marc Jacobs not to mention the undone manicures at Chanel – this year it is all about the pale nail.

If you want to try out the trend yourself make sure your nails are in the best possible condition and go for milky whites or the palest pinks or nudes. What’s more because the look is quite neutral it is perfect for holidays or your summer weddings.

Move to the dark side

On the other side of the spectrum there was also a number of darker nails on the catwalks as well – so if pale shades aren’t for you why not try navy shades, as seen at Jason Wu, or the deep purple seen at Marchesa – or even black as seen on the models at Vera Wang.

This manicure is very sophisticated and glam and is perfect if you want a chic style but without going for pale shades.

A new take on the French manicure

As usual the French manicure got a bit of a makeover on the spring/summer catwalk. You could take inspiration Philip Som whose models had neon orange tips teamed with mint green nails. Or why not look to Lauren Moffatt where the nails had diagonal orange tips. However, for a truly fun take on the trend you can keep your nails all one colour but play with finishes. At Angel Sanchez they had matte pink nails teamed with shiny tips in the same colour which was a subtle yet fun take on the French manicure

The beautiful thing about this trend is that it really updates a traditional look and then adds a modern twist so it looks classic and fun at the same time and lets you have fun with your manicure.

A hint of metallic

It seems that the metallic trend for nails is not about to go anywhere with a number of runways having hints on metallics on their model’ nails. From the full on foils of the Fetherston show to the galaxy style nails at Nicole Miller or the glitter tipped nails at Behnaz Sarafpour.

So if you want to try the nails just add a metallic twist to your manicure for a glam way off adding a bit of bling to your look without going too over the top.

What ever look you decide to opt for a new manicure is a great feel good beauty look this spring/summer.
