Spring/summer 2013 makeup trends
January 23, 2013
OK so I know it’s very wintery out there but spring is not that far away, so now is a good time to start thinking about spring/summer 2013 makeup trends. What’s more with any luck a new makeup look will help brighten up the dull winter days. So what should you be wearing to make sure your are ahead of the curve this spring/summer?
The eyes have it
The eyes took centre stage at catwalk shows at all four fashion weeks. Donna Karan and Altuzarra in New York, Clements Ribeiro and Christopher KaneinLondon, Gucci and Versace in Milan and Chanel and Dior in Paris all choose to showcase dramatic eye looks. They used coloured liners, jewelled lids and extra long lashes to ensure that the eyes of their models stood out.
It wasn’t just dramatic eye looks that stood out on the catwalks – at Diane Von Furstenberg, Lanvin, 3.1 Philip Lim and Christopher Kane the makeup artists used eyeliner below the lash line smudged to look grungy. Stella McCartney also emphasised the lower lash line with a flash of green on the water line and Fendi placed fabric coloured strips below the lash line.
And its not just eyeshadow and eyeliner that was on display, at Versace, Gucci, Giorgio Armani and Moschino the models had obviously fake eyelashes on for sexy take on wow eyes and a good antidote to some of the 90s style grunge eyes seen at the other shows.
Keep it minimal
This season was all about minimalism but unlike last season where it involved as few products as possible this spring/summer’s take on the look is far more glam. Instead, this time around the look is all about a flawless finish – so it’s not just you with no makeup it’s you looking fab with no makeup! So think primed and prepped skin with subtle contouring and a slight flush on the cheeks for a stunning beauty look.
Leave dewy skin behind
Dewy skin has been popular for a while now but on the spring/summer catwalks it was a powdered matte look that was the order of the day. In fact minimalist velvety skin was popular at so many shows I can’t even begin to list them, so it’s probably time to dust of that face powder and put away the luminescent products.
This spring/summer the only way to wear your bold bright lipstick is matte. At Burberry the models wore a velvety scarlet colour, at Missoni it was a bold coral and at Giles it was vibrant fuchsia but all in a matte tone.
Experiment with colour
For a lot of the shows the beauty looks were quite paired down but there was a vibrant splash of colour to stop the looks looking too boring. So at Giles the models had bright fuchsia lips with the rest of the face kept simple. While Donna Karan, Altuzarra and Michael Kors all opted for bright bold colours on the eyes to vamp up their otherwise simple looks.
