The best updos for party hair
December 5, 2012
The first few doors have been opened on the advent calendar and if you are anything like me the Christmas tree is already up, which means that party season is well and truly upon us. Therefore, it’s time to start thinking about fun things like how to wear your hair.
Now is a great time to start experimenting with different hair styles and this festive season why not take inspiration from the catwalks and red carpet and try a fab updo? Whether plaits, the celeb favourite of the high pony or classic buns there is a party look out there for you and instead of wearing your hair down it’s great to experiment with a new updo. So here’s Shumaila’s guide to some of the best party looks around.
It’s a favourite of the celebs on the red carpet and is probably one of the easiest updos to achieve. Celebs such as Cheryl Cole and Sandra Bullock have all been spotted in recent months sporting glam versions of the humble ponytail. But forget the just been to the gym look and instead go for a glam polished look so you look chic rather than shabby at your parties.
What’s more the ponytail is incredibly versatile as it can be worn high on the head, low at the nape of the neck and even to the side – or what about adding a fashionable quiff to your ponytail? What’s more if you have short hair you can easily fake longer hair styles with a clip in hair piece.
Get ballerina chic with a bun
The classic ballerina bun was a fixture on the autumn/winter catwalks with Giles, Chanel, Donna Karan and Yves Saint Laurent all featuring the style. This look screams elegance and is a chic Christmas look. Like the ponytail it is also incredibly versatile. It can be worn high-up on the head as seen at Donna Karan, as an elegant side bun with blinging accessories as shown at Chanel or a pretty and neat look like those on the Giles catwalk.
Try a beehive
The retro inspired do is a perennial favourite on the catwalk and red carpet and is a great way of adding volume and height to your look. So channel Mad Men for a sophisticated party look and for added detail try adding in some gorgeous hair accessories.
They were a popular summer style and are showing no signs of going anywhere, so you can’t go far wrong with trying a plait this party season. The great thing about plaited styles is they can look a little bit more informal then a bun or beehive so are good for a more relaxed party vibe. They can also be used for the basis of other updos as a French plait can be wound round to form a bun and a plaited fishtail can be a new take on the ponytail.
Whatever, you style there is a fab updo for you this party season and the stylists at Shumaila can even do all the hard work for you by putting your hair up on the big day so all you have to do is turn up and look fab.
