If you’ve been considering laser hair removal for some time, there are a few things you should know about the procedure before going hair-free for good. At Shumaila’s Beauty in Essex, we have identified just a few of the in’s and out’s of this highly-effective and permanent hair reduction treatment and why we think it’s the best long-term hair removal treatment available on the market today.
Dark Hair, Light Skin
There are many different types of lasers on the market, and for the majority of these lasers to work best the person being treated should have darker hair and lighter skin. Typically, those with lighter-coloured hair including blondes, redheads or even grey-haired individuals have a lack of pigment in the hair which means the laser has a difficult time penetrating the follicle. In addition, some machines aren’t compatible with tanned or darker skin colours because there isn’t enough of a contrast between the pigment in the skin and the hair itself. At Shumaila’s Beauty we use the Soprano ICE laser technology – an award-winning and ground-breaking laser. So at Shumaila’s we can happily and effectively treat most people.
No Plucking, No Waxing, No Suntanning
Once you have set a date for your laser hair removal treatment at Shumaila’s Beauty, you must hold off on any of your usual hair removal routines. For example, no plucking or waxing is allowed as your therapist needs to ensure that your hair follicles are in the proper growth stage prior to your laser hair removal treatment. If there is not sufficient growth for the laser to treat the hair, the results will not be as expected. Whilst other lasers do not efficiently work on tanned and sun-exposed skin as they are not able to determine the contrast between the colour of your skin and the hair to work effectively, the Soprano ICE laser that we use at Shumaila’s works on most skin colours and hair types.
Do Shave but Don’t Wear Creams or Lotions
On the day of your scheduled treatment at Shumaila’s, do remember to shave over the areas that will be treated. Shaving removes the hair whilst keeping the hair follicle intact, enabling the laser to focus more precisely on the hair follicles for optimal treatment. Avoid wearing deodorants, creams or perfumes on the day of your treatment as there are specific preparatory procedures, which need to be followed before a session begins.
Multiple Sessions are Needed
Consistency is key with laser hair removal, and follow-up appointments are best scheduled every four to six weeks. Typically, one can expect to see results on the body in as little as six to eight sessions, whilst the face may take anywhere from eight to twelve sessions as it takes longer to get results.
In addition, changes in the body – including hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause – can cause dormant hair follicles to reactivate and grow new hair. Even hair follicles which are in the dormant phase of hair production can reactivate over time, and so in these cases repeat sessions will be needed.
Post-Treatment Reaction is Normal
Your skin may be slightly red or irritated post-treatment, which is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Applying a cool compress or ice pack to the treated area will help and the irritation should dissipate after a couple of days. It is also suggested to stay hydrated and out of the sun post-treatment, too.
Your initial consultation with your Shumaila’s therapist will answer all your questions about the treatment, including a detailed overview of your medical history. A test patch will always be conducted to ensure there is no adverse reaction to the skin from the laser, in addition to discussing the reasons for your wanting laser hair treatment, your expectations from the treatment, and pre-treatment and post-treatment care. At Shumaila’s, we take great care to ensure that all of our clients are well-informed and at ease before any treatments take place. If you are considering laser hair removal in Essex, count on Shumaila’s for professionalism and outstanding quality of care.
