Threading is an ancient art which uses a thread to pull hair out from it’s root. It is a precise method which requires skill and lots of practice to master. Although in theory you can use threading to remove any hair from the body, at Shumaila’s we use it primarily for the face and neck only.
Our threading technicians have years of experience and use this technique daily to achieve perfectly groomed eyebrows for our clients. Other common areas to get threading are upper lip, chin, cheeks and side burns. A lot of our clients opt for full face threading which includes eyebrows.
Does threading hurt?
Everyone’s pain threshold is different, some people find threading very painful and some not at all.
However, the pain can be reduced if you your therapist’s techniques are good. Shumaila’s has been providing facial threading services since 2001, we are known for our excellent threading. Our therapists have many years of experience and are trained to high standards.
We also offer facial waxing, using premium chocolate hot wax which is less painful than threading.
To opt for a more pain-free method of hair removal, we recommend Laser Hair Removal which is virtually painless, safe and also permanent! We offer a free consultation and patch test for laser.

She did a great job of shaping and cleaning them up, but it's also worth mentioning that she made it completely quick and painless, and I barely felt a thing! My eyebrows were always so sensitive during threading, but this salon made it super relaxing. Thank you, and I will see you again soon!

Recently Romika has been doing them for me and she is just brilliant! She’s super friendly and threads my eyebrows perfectly! Everyone notices when I’ve had them done. Last month I had my first facial (also by Romika) it was so relaxing and i felt like I had a new face at the end! My skin was clear and glowing. Frequently Asked Questions
Both threading and waxing have their own benefits. For example a cleaner finish is achieved with threading, as we are able to get even the smallest of hairs and even some ingrown hairs. Very small hairs do not come out with waxing alone and need to be tweezed or threaded after.
In terms of pain, our hot waxing is far less painful than threading.
At Shumaila’s we combine both waxing and threading, to achieve benefits of both – a well defined and clean finish and a less painful treatment. We give our clients the option to get the area waxed first and then go over it with threading to remove the small hairs that did not come out with the wax. This way the treatment hurts a lot less.
Yes, threading is a very safe and non-invasive method of hair removal. It has been around for thousands of years.
There is no specific age, it depends entirely on the individual. We get clients as young at 10 who get the middle of their eyebrows threaded without a very sharp overall shape. We try to accommodate our client’s requests, and only thread the unibrow and a few hairs to look more groomed but without thinning out the overall shape.
For clients under 16, we require that the parent or guardian is present for the treatment to go ahead.
This depends on how fast your hair grows, on average our clients get their eyebrows threaded every 2-3 weeks to maintain a well groomed shape all the time.
For eyebrows we definitely recommend threading over laser, as a much crisper shape is achieved. For the rest of the face laser has far more benefits as compared to threading:
- our hair laser removal treatment is virtually painless
- hair is permanently reduced by 90% after approximately 6-12 sessions
- gets rid of ingrown hairs
At Shumaila’s we offer a free consultation and patch test for laser hair removal. We offer laser hair removal for chin, upper lip, side burns and neck. We do not offer laser for eyebrow hairs.
Threading is very safe and doesn’t have any side effects, however if the skin is not held taut during the treatment it is possible to get cuts on the skin. These are not permanent and heal in a few days, and can be avoided by stretching the skin properly during the treatment.
